The Bengaluru Customs Zone plays a crucial role in ensuring the enforcement of customs laws, preventing illegal trade, and facilitating legitimate international trade in the jurisdictional area vested in it.
Bengaluru Customs Zone Jurisdiction : Under Notification No. 24/2022-Cus. (N.T.) issued on 31-3-2022, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, in the exercise of its statutory authority as granted by section 4(1), in conjunction with sections 3 and 5(1) & (4) of the Customs Act, 1962, vested in the Chief Commissioner of Customs, Bengaluru, a jurisdiction extending over the Commissioner of Customs, Bengaluru City, Bengaluru; Principal Commissioner of Customs, Airport and Air Cargo Complex, Bengaluru; Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore; and the Commissioner of Customs (Appeals), Bengaluru.
Establishment of Customs Zone in Bangalore:
The office of the Chief Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise in Bangalore was founded in July 1997, marking a significant milestone. Shri N. Obhrai assumed the role of the first Chief Commissioner for the Bangalore Zone on November 17, 1997. This establishment followed the division of the Karnataka Customs and Central Excise Collectorate in 1983, resulting in the creation of distinct entities: the Bangalore Central Excise Collectorate, Belgaum Central Excise Collectorate, and Karnataka Customs Collectorate.
